How to Gain Admission into Nigerian Universities Without JAMB in 2026

Many people think JAMB is the only way to gain admission into Nigerian universities. So they spend 4-5 years at home waiting for JAMB to give them their dream course. Year after year, they write UTME, score low, or miss cut-off, then go back home to wait again.

What they never knew is this: JAMB is not the only road to university.

Yes, we have JAMB UTME and JAMB Direct Entry. But we also have other NUC-approved ways that can take you to 100 level or even 200 level without writing JAMB UTME again.

Other Ways of Gaining Admission into Tertiary Institutions Without JAMB UTME

A’Level Programs: IJMB & JUPEB  

This is the fastest route to 200 level.  

IJMB: Interim Joint Matriculation Board. 9-month program by ABU Zaria. After exam, you enter 200 level in UNILAG, OAU, UNIBEN, UNIPORT, etc through Direct Entry.  

JUPEB: Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board. 12-month program by UNILAG. UNILAG gives JUPEB students admission priority.  

Requirements: 5 O’Level credits including English.  

Duration: 9-12 months  

After IJMB/JUPEB, you only buy JAMB Direct Entry form. No UTME exam.

Pre-Degree / Foundation / Basic Studies  

Almost all federal and state universities run this. You study in the university for 1 year, write their internal exam, and get admission into 100 level in the same school.  

Examples: UNILAG Foundation, UI Pre-Degree, UNIBEN Pre-Degree, RSU Pre-Degree.  

Advantage: 70-80% admission rate if you pass their test. No JAMB UTME.

Diploma → HND → Direct Entry  

If your O’Level is weak, start with 2-year diploma in polytechnic. After diploma, do HND, then use Direct Entry to enter 200 level in university. Longer route, but it works.

Change of Institution/Course  

Already have admission in polytechnic or college of education? Use JAMB Change of Institution form to move to university 100 level. You won’t write UTME again.

Important Truth You Must Know  

Any agent telling you “pay me ₦200k, I’ll give you admission without JAMB, no exam” is lying. Only IJMB, JUPEB, Pre-degree, and Direct Entry are legal and recognized by NUC and JAMB.

Don’t Waste More Years  

If JAMB has kept you at home for 3, 4, 5 years, stop waiting. Choose IJMB or JUPEB and enter 200 level next year. Or enroll for Pre-Degree and enter 100 level in your dream school.

JAMB UTME is one door. IJMB, JUPEB, Pre-Degree are other doors. The university building has many entrances.
